2017 'Lineage' Langhorne Creek Shiraz

The Seabrook family has been entrenched in the Australian wine industry for generations, and our ‘Lineage’ range pays homage to this unbroken line of Seabrook’s – connecting our bloodline from the past, the present, and the future.

The 2017 Langhorne Creek Shiraz is a lighter-bodied Shiraz that bursts from the glass with aromas of ripe blackberries, chocolate mousse, and hints of caramel and nougat. The palate is rich, ripe and layered, providing bright textural fruits, pepper and spice. Complemented by soft, subtle tannins and bright, plush fruit, this wine continues in the mouth, long after the first sip.

Great winter and spring rains helped fill the soil profile and set up the vines for a good season. A windy Spring resulted in poor set in the Shiraz thus resulting in a lower than first estimated crop. Late spring and summer were quite dry and hot with January two degrees above average. Ripening was quite expedient in the first and 2nd weeks of January where we thought we may be the earliest harvest on record. A late rain event on Valentines day resulted in 100mm of rain in just 24 hours which slowed ripening down and we had to wait till the grapes shed their water load and show their true flavours again. Harvest commenced on 18th of February, just a week later after the rain event.

The 2017 Shiraz is from a small grower near the Langhorne Creek township. Planted in 1982 the vines are grown on a single cordon, spur pruned vineyard.
