2017 “THE JUDGE” EDEN VALLEY RIESLING

Very light colour, youthful, the nose shy and restrained, with some dried herb and dried flower nuances. It has the faintest touch of sweetness and is delicate, refined, taut and precise, finishing cleanly dry and refreshing. Acidity cleanses the finish. A very smart riesling that will age well.

2012 “THE MERCHANT” BAROSSA VALLEY SHIRAZ

Deep, rich red colour with a good purple tint, the bouquet shows vanilla, chocolate and smoked smallgoods. Oak has been lavishly applied, and the palate has a touch of oaky astringency. The aftertaste is a bit chewy. A big, ballsy wine – a trifle unsubtle, but it will no doubt age superbly.

2013 “THE CHAIRMAN” GREAT WESTERN SHIRAZ

Deep, rich red colour with a good tint of purple, the bouquet strong on gumleaf-mint, with some spice notes as well. In the mouth, it’s firm and full-bodied, tight and savoury, with fine gritty tannins which dry and add pleasant astringency to the after-palate. There is a dark chocolate note as well and the wine is big, rich and generous, and strongly built.

2014 “LINEAGE” LANGHORNE CREEK SHIRAZ

Medium to deep red colour with a faint tint of purple. The bouquet is very spicy, vegetal and sousbois-like, loaded with pepper and spice and also sweetly super-ripe fruit. It’s almost luscious in the mouth. There is intensity, drive and elegance here, the tannins treading the fine line between firmness and approachability. Some alcohol wamth to finish. Delicious wine and top value.

2015 “THE FOUNDER” BAROSSA VALLEY MATARO

Very good colour; a powerful and perfectly ripened Mataro with an array of dark berry fruits and a crosscut of leather and forest notes. The tannins are ripe, joining with oak to give texture and structure.

2015 “THE BROKER” BAROSSA VALLEY CABERNET SHIRAZ

Breaks free of the usual full-bodied, ripe Barossa Valley cabernet shiraz, in no small measure due to the modest alcohol, but also gentle vinification that has placed the focus on the juicy cassis fruit of the cabernet and black cherry of the shiraz. A wine made for quality quaffing.

Ah, the smell of sizzling sausages, lamb chops and hamburger patties… The great Australian grill needs a ‘great Australian red’, a Cabernet Shiraz blend, AKA a rip-snorting Claret. This is big and rich with plenty of opulent blackberry and dark plum fruit senses – even a subtle dash of floral/herbal mint – all rolling into the mouth with a certain power. Its bright fruit acidity and energetic palate length balancing boldness with elegance.
